Nissan has been the sixth largest automaker in the world behind General Motors, Volkswagen AG, Toyota, Hyundai Motor Group, and Ford in 2011.

In March 2012 Nissan announced the building of a new car, the Invitation, from mid-2013 at the Washington plant in the UK with the creation of 2000 jobs, 400 of them at Washington.
