Established after independence in 1948, this university believes in reviving conventional approach of learning that separates it from other university campuses. In 1956, university started its three post-graduate departments including English in Srinagar, Geology and Economics in Jammu. In 1956, Kashmir University was separated into two divisions with one in Jammu and other in Kashmir as central organization having a definite goals and decision-making powers when it comes to planning, standardized teaching modules, academic bodies, coordination, budget and finance. Since 1956, this university has been developing a dominant approach among students and young professionals. Kashmir University also provides comfortable residential quarters to its staff members and hostel facility to students.
