MCD OnlineMCD is the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, an autonomous body governing 8 districts of Delhi. The MCD is among the largest municipal bodies in the world. It covers about 1,397 Km2 areas and provides civic services to more than 11 million people.

The municipal Corporation of Delhi was established under the Act of Parliament on April 7th, 1958. Prior to this, MCD was known as Delhi Municipal Committee (DMC). Guru Radha Kishan was the first councillor of DMC. The first elected mayor of Delhi was Aruna Asaf Ali, an Indian independence activist, and Pt. Trilok Chand Sharma.

There are 12 MCD zones: City Zone, Central Zone, South Zone, Karol Bagh Zone, Sadar pahar ganj, West Zone, Civil Lines Zone, Sh. South Zone, Sh. North Zone, Narela Zone, Najafgarh Zone and Rohini Zone. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been trifurcated:
1. North Delhi Municipal Corporation
2. South Delhi Municipal Corporation
3. East Delhi Municipal Corporation

MCD provides several civic services to rural as well as urban villages, resettlement colonies, regularised unauthorised colonies, Slum/Squatter Settlements, and other basic infrastructures.
