WBSETCL i.e., West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited transmits power at 66 KV, 132 KV, 220KV and 400KV in the state of West Bengal. The electricity board was incorporated on May 1st, 1955. Initially, the West Bengal Government restructured WBSEB (West Bengal State Electricity Board) into two successor entities i.e., West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) and West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL). The two power companies kicked off operation from April 1, 2007.

The split of two companies i.e., West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) and West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company (WBSETCL) came into effect on April 1st, 2007 under the provisions of West Bengal Power Reform Scheme, 2007.

WBSEDCL has been divided into 5 zones: Kolkata, Burdwan, Midnapore, Beherampur and Siliguri. It serves more than 1 crore customers across West Bengal.
